Woman Jumps into Osun River in Suicide Bid, Rescued by NSCDC Officers

A middle-aged woman has jumped into Osun River in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, in a bid to commit suicide.

Timely response by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) rescued her alive from the river.

The corps spokesman, Adeleke Kehinde said the woman was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

According to him, the woman after regaining consciousness, claimed she came from Iragbiji to Osogbo to commit suicide because of the fire she was feeling in her body.

A statement by the Osun NSCDC spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, yesterday, revealed that officers of the NSCDC command pulled the woman out of the river on Tuesday, after receiving a distress call that someone jumped into the river.

The Search and Rescue Team of the command received a distress call from a member of the public and in less than 10 minutes, our officers were at the scene to rescue the victim.

The victim, a middle-aged woman, was resuscitated and later taken to the hospital for medical attention the statement said.

Adeleke said the state NSCDC Commandant, Agboola Sunday, commended the Search and Rescue Team for being responsive and bringing to bear their training in disaster management.
