WAEC Fails To Tender Abiodun’s WAEC Certificate Requested By Poll Tribunal

West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Thursday failed to tender before the state governorship poll petition tribunal, the certificate of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) it issued to governor Dapo Abiodun.

An official of WAEC, Olufemi Olaleye, told the tribunal he did not come to the sitting of the tribunal with a copy of the requested certificate.

Because of this, the tribunal did not sworn him to an oath or allowed him to step into the witness box during its Thursday sitting.

The tribunal had subpoenaed WAEC, to produce a copy of the certificate which was attached by the governor, to forms he submitted to the Independent National Electoral  Commission (INEC) before the 2019 poll.

The tribunal subpoenaed WAEC, following allegation made by the PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu in his petition that the governor forged the WAEC certificate it attached to forms sent to inec to contest in the 2023 governorship poll.

Adebutu said all efforts he made to verify the certificate of the governor had failed.

The waec official told the tribunal that he did not bring the requested certificate, because WAEC does not keep duplicates of certificates already collected by candidates.

According to him, to confirm the participation of candidates in the WAEC examinations, the original certificates had to be sent to WAEC for verification.

Following his submission, the tribunal directed the WAEC official to tender in evidence a copy of subpoenaed written to WAEC, and allowed him to go.
