The Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) says it is suspending the implementation of the upward review of the remuneration of political and public office holders.

Last June, the commission had announced a package raising their remuneration by 114 percent.

It said that the remuneration for political and public office holders was last reviewed in 2007.

But the Commission Chairman, Mohammed Sheu in an interview on Sunday, said the proposed review would be postponed, due to the prevailing economic situation in the country.

According to Sheu, the upward review of the remuneration would be revisited when the climate was right in the country.

The RMAFC Chairman, however, faulted the public perception that National Assembly members are were receiving outrageous remuneration.

He explained that the speculated N10 million to N11 million monthly package for each legislator, was not salaries, but statutory office running costs of their offices, which was being managed by the civil service commission.
