Toyin Abraham’s film, Malaika, is set to expand its reach as it makes its way to the international market.

Despite already grossing an impressive ₦104.3 million in Nigeria, the movie is now gearing up for a release in the United Kingdom, scheduled for this Friday, January 5, 2023.

The filmmaker and actress shared the exciting news on her Instagram yesterday, revealing that the Independent Film Exhibition Consultancy (IFEC) will handle the international distribution, with screenings set to take place at Odeon Cinemas.

The detailed schedule and specific locations for the UK screenings will be disclosed later in the week.

This move follows the trend set by other successful Nollywood films like Funke Akindele’s  A Tribe Called Judah, which had a brief stint in the United Kingdom in December 2023.

Malaika’s financial success is evident in its substantial gross of ₦104.3 million at Nigerian cinemas, as reported by Film One Entertainment on December 30, 2023.

The film proudly stands among the top five highest-grossing Nollywood titles for the year.

Toyin Abraham and Emeka Ike portray a couple whose journey to parenthood strains their relationship. After years of unsuccessful attempts, the wife expresses her frustration with their childlessness, seeking answers to their predicament.

Directed by Steve Sodiya, the film boasts a stellar cast that includes Ibrahim Chatta, Uzor Arukwe, Odunlade Adekola, Pelumi Olawuni, Taiwo Lyncett, Adesege Adeniji, and Ugandan entertainer Anne Kansiime.

While Malaika continues to captivate audiences across Nigerian cinemas, its journey to international screens adds another layer of anticipation.
