Tinubu Commissions Nigeria’s First Electric Mass Transit Buses in Borno

President Tinubu has commissioned Nigeria’s first electric mass transit buses in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The buses were among 107 electric/gas first mass transit vehicles launched by the President on Monday.

The president on an official visit to the state, commissioned 50 electric buses for mass transit, purchased by the Borno state government.

Tinubu appreciated Governor Babagana Zulum for his foresight and people-oriented projects.

Governor Zulum explained that his administration decided to purchase the electric buses, following Tinubu’s directive, after the removal of the petrol subsidy.

According to the governor, the deployment of electric buses was the first of its kind in Nigeria, and in line with the realities of climate change.

On Monday in Maiduguri, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated 107 mass transit vehicles, including 50 electric taxis purchased by the Borno State Government.

At the ceremony, the President praised Governor Babagana Zulum for his foresight and people-oriented policies and projects.

He revealed that the Federal Government intended to establish a plant in that direction to generate employment and facilitate transportation.

Governor Zulum explained that his motivation for the project came from a directive from the President to the governors after the removal of the fuel subsidy.

He emphasized that the deployment of 50 electric taxis was a pioneering effort in Nigeria, aligning with the realities of climate change.

NAN reported that the vehicles inaugurated by the President comprised 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses.

During his first official visit to the state, Tinubu paid a courtesy call to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi. Additionally, the President opened the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference.
