Security Beef Up At Abeokuta Motor Garages As Transport Unions Clash Over Issuing Of Tickets

Security has been beefed up at various motor garages in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, following clashes between officials of the major public transport unions in the state.

The fresh clashes is between the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Ogun state park and garages management board over collection of tickets at the garages.

Foot soldiers of the two unions exchanged gunshots and inflicted matchet cuts on each other’s at Lafenwa, Brewery, Kuto, and Pansheke on Monday.

Many of them sustained injuries.

Normalcy was restored later with the massive deployment of armed policemen to the various motor parks.

The State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu said the situation was under control, and that nobody was killed in the Monday clashes.

Efforts made to get the transport commissioner to react to this incident proved abortive as he neither picked up the calls put across to him nor responded to the enquiry sent to him on WhatsApp.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the development, adding that the situation had been brought under control.

He also debunked claims by some media houses that lives have been lost in a fracas connected to transport unions in the state.

Alamutu said, The security agents and the government have stepped into the situation, the police are out there to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

In fact, I am just leaving a meeting held with the government over the matter, so everything is fine, and let me also add that nobody was killed in the incident.
