OOU 2023/2024 Resumption Date Uncertain Due Tuition Fee Hike

There is still an uncertainty on the resumption of the Olabisi Onbanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, for the 2023/2024 session as another meeting over the dispute on the hike in institution’s tuition fees.

Another meeting convened by the university management on Wednesday with the student’s union leaders, on the sharp increase in the tuition fees again ended in a deadlock.

The increase in the tuition fees ranges from 120 per cent to 194 percent.

The students’ leaders are calling for a reverse of the new tuition fees, reduction in the clearance fees, scrapping of the tech fees, reduction of TRCN fees and rejection all form of online teaching during the 2024 academic session, as well as the reversal in the hostel fees.

During the Wednesday’s meeting, it was gathered that the management was not ready to shift ground, rejecting the proposal of the students for a maximum of 30 per cent increase in the existing fees.

The meeting ended without any agreement between the students’ representatives and the university management, and no date was fixed for another meeting.

The student’s union government in a release asked students not to make any payment yet until the matters were resolved.

With the fresh deadlock, the date of resumption of the 2023/2024 session remains uncertain since the university vacated on December 8, 2023.
