Ondo State Amotekun Corps has raised an alarm over an upsurge in kidnappings in the state, following the heavy security presence in Ekiti State since last week.

The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, made this known while parading the over 43 suspected kidnappers arrested across the state in the last week.

He explained that the heavy security presence in Ekiti forced kidnappers to relocate to the Ondo/Kogi and Edo/Ondo border.

The Amotekun commander said on Sunday, a combined security team, from Kogi and Ondo states, as well as Amotekun from Ondo state have been flushing out those involved in the last weekend kidnapping in Akunu, Ayere at Kogi/Ondo states borders.

As of yesterday morning, a combined team of security men, specifically the Army from Kogi and Ondo, Police from Kogi and Ondo, and Amotekun from Ondo, joined hands together to try to fish out the perpetrators of the last kidnapping around the Akunu/Ayere axis in Kogi/Ondo.

The actual thing that you saw on social media happened in between those two communities, and we have been raising alarm in places where we don’t have the grassroots local security that we can work with.

Although we have encountered challenges, we are pleased that the community members have joined forces with us, and the search continues. We have made significant progress because the governor issued a specific directive to apprehend perpetrators of wrongdoing, particularly along the border.

Furthermore, the state governor instructed all security agencies to ensure there were no security breaches during the activities honoring our late governor, the pioneer of Amotekun in the Southwest, Rotimi Akeredolu, over the next two weeks.

Every effort is being made to ensure people can joyfully and safely participate in celebrating the legacy of this esteemed figure.

Regarding the suspects apprehended and presented, Adeleye noted that they include kidnappers, burglars, and various other criminals.

He mentioned that more than half of the suspects were involved in kidnapping cases, and they were apprehended across all 18 local government areas of the state.
