Ohaneze Ndigbo Says Detained IPOB Leader May Regain Freedom before January 1

Ohaneze Ndigbo Worlwide has raised the hope of Ndigbo that detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) may regain his freedom before December 31.

Kanu, who is facing trial for sedition, is in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) since he was forcefully brought back to Nigeria from Kenya.

The Ndigbo Apex Socio Cultural Organization in a statement on Sunday, said that its expectation was based on the ongoing negotiations to get the IPOB leader out of detention.

The organization, in the statement signed by its Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Iziguzoro asked all Pro-Biafran agitators in the South East Region, to halt their hostilities against Federal Government for 40 days, starting from October 31.

It says that it expects positive outcome of the negotiations after the conduct of the November 2023 governorship poll in Imo State.

All Pro-Biafra agitators are pleaded with to exhibit discipline during the 40day ceasefire, while asking all Nigerians who had been offended by Kanu to forgive him in the greater interest of the country.

“The primary challenge we currently face is ensuring that the Biafra agitators cease all offensive aggression for 40 days, as this will pave the way for the desired solutions to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly believes that engaging with all relevant authorities through diplomatic channels remains the most effective approach to achieve the desired results.

“We implore Ndigbo to exercise patience and understanding throughout this critical period. We acknowledge the pain and hardship endured by the people of the South-East since Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration, and as custodians of our land, we assure you that positive outcomes are anticipated after the November 2023 Imo State governorship elections.”

Earlier, the Supreme Court fixed December 15 to deliver its judgement on the appeal seeking to compel the Federal Government to release Kanu from detention.
