Ogun State Government is finalizing arrangements to domesticate the national building code, as part of measures to prevent collapse of buildings in the state.

Also, the state Ministry of Physical Planning Urban Development intends to set up a monitoring team to curb the incidences of sub-standard blocks in the state.

The physical planning urban development commissioner, Tunji Odunlami made this known while receiving leaders of the state chapter of the Block Moulders Association of Nigeria in his office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

He explained that the proposed domestication of the national building code would serve as an additional regulatory instrument.

The commissioner said sub-standard blocks largely produced by unregulated block moulders, were one of the challenges facing the built industry.

He said his ministry through Ogun State Building Production Management Authority would ensure that buildings are built to stand the test of time and prevent collapse.
