Ogun Retains Nigeria’s Second-Largest Internet Subscriber Hub after Lagos

Ogun state has retained its position as hosting Nigeria’s second internet subscriber, after Lagos, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as of December 31, 2023.

The state also trailed only Lagos on the number of active voice subscriptions during the period under review.

According to the data, Ogun state recorded 13.07 million active voice subscriptions and 9.57 million internet subscribers.

It trailed Lagos state which recorded the highest 26.74 million active voice subscriptions and 18.93 internet subscribers.

Kano state is third with 12.33 million active voice subscriptions and 9.03 million internet subscribers.

It went on to say that as of the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, data on internet usage across the country provides fascinating insights into which states lead in digital connection.

This data indicates that internet users in the country have increased significantly as more residents obtained access to the internet despite the difficulty caused by the loss of subsidies and the floating of the naira, among other factors.

Last year, it was reported that internet users were about 154.8 million, a 1.35 percent compared to the previous year (2021) which stood at 141.9 million.

The bureau said the upward movement marked a 9.07 percent growth in internet subscribers for the sector in the period reviewed.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, this grew by 1.35 percent, NBS added.
