Ogun Primary Healthcare Development Board to Vaccinate People Against COVID-19

Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board is to embark on the vaccination of people in the state, to reduce COVID-19-related deaths.

The vaccination is to be undertaken in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Canadian global initiative vaccination equities.

The board’s executive secretary, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, announced this at a stakeholders meeting held in Abeokuta, on the planned exercise.

He explained that the vaccination would reduce the incidences of covid 19 related deaths, and serious illness, especially among the priority groups and the vulnerable.

The WHO consultant on the Can Give program, Mrs. Amina Bwala, in her presentation at the workshop, said the vaccination program was organized to create awareness for the exercise.

Another agenda for the program was to increase the coverage of the vaccination, as well as to improve the efficacy and safety of the vaccination.

She explained that the vaccination would be undertaken in Ogun and 14 other states.

According to her, the criteria for choosing Ogun and the other 14 states was low uptake of vaccination among priority groups who are already 50 years old and above.

Others are those who are those with chronic disease, and morbidity, as well as, pregnant women, health workers, and the general populace.
