Ogun Government Says It Will Enforce Its Age Limit of Students in the Schools in the State

Ogun State Government says it will enforce its policy on the age limit for students in the state’s private and public primary and secondary schools.

Under its Education Revitalization Agenda, children aspiring to enter secondary schools in the state must not be below the age of 12 years.

Also, students below the age of sixteen would not be allowed to graduate from secondary schools in the state.

Special Adviser to the State Governor on Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, who gave this indication, said the policy was a national policy and had been in place for several years.

According to the special adviser, the stipulated age limit was the normal age for children to go through the primary and secondary school system, before they enroll into tertiary institutions.

He explained that underage children, no matter how brilliant they may be, are not emotionally, mentally and psychologically ready for enrolment into schools

To enforce the age limit, he said that the state government had developed a digital platform, which has data on each of the student in the state’s primary and secondary schools.

The principal of Taidob College, Asero, Abeokuta, Chief (Mrs) H. Jiboku,  has appealed to the Ogun State government to extend its ongoing palliatives on petroleum subsidy removal, to private schools in the state.

According to her, private schools deserve the palliative, because they are major stakeholder in the overall development and growth of education in the state.

Chief Jiboku made the call on Thursday, during the twenty fourth graduation ceremony and prize giving day of the college at its campus, in Asero, Abeokuta.

She further asked governments at all levels, especially in Ogun state to promote academic excellence among private schools students as exemplified by the college’s best 2023 graduating student, Master Mutiu Oloruntola.

Chief Jiboku, however, commended governor Dapo Abiodun for the provision of n10,000 monthly  allowance for three months for the state’s civil servants and pensioners in the first instance, to cope with the shock of petrol subsidy removal.

In his speech, the director of the college, Mr Obawunmi Jiboku said the college had imparted the right values, ideals, norms and academic training on the students which some of them perceived to be harsh and excessive.

He urged the graduating students to go into the larger society to make impeccable impact.

The distinguished award was conferred on Dr Niran Malaolu, the chief executive officer of RockCity FM Radio, Abeokuta.

The college’s 2023 overall best graduating student award was conferred on Master Mutiu Oloruntola, who scored ‘a one’ in nine subjects in the 2023 West African senior secondary school examination.

Mutiu Oloruntola received prizes separately as the overall best student in chemistry, biology, mathematics, physics, technical drawing and science.

Also, Master Adebayo Kayode got the price for the college’s 2023 best UTME score.
