Ogun Floats Plan to Become Nigeria’s Food Basket

Ogun State Government has said the state has the potential of becoming Nigeria’s food basket, to contribute to the food security agenda of Tinubu administration.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said new strategies are being developed to achieve the objective in the shortest time.

According to the Governor, his administration has an ambitious plan of action, to ensure that this becomes visible across the state in the next 12 months.

He spoke on the goal while hosting the consul general of the German embassy in Nigeria, Weert Borner at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Governor said his administration is ready to explore partnership with Germany in its quest to actualize the objective and raise food production in the state.

He explained that his administration is looking for partners in the area of merchandized farming and provision of tractors and techniques to assist in achieving the objective.

Abiodun told the envoy that the state welcomes investors to boost food security and ready to provide land and clear them to make them accessible.

The German Consul General said his country was looking at increasing its ties with the state in the agricultural sector and energy transition.

On agriculture, he said Germany seeks co-operation with Ogun in better production and methods of agriculture and to make agriculture in the state to be more sustainable and environment friendly.

On the energy, the consul general said Germany was interested in the energy transition to improve the buildup of renewable energy and grid development in Nigeria.
