Ogun Finally Unveils CNG Mass Transit Buses for Cheap Transportation of Workers and Students

Ogun State has unveiled the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered mass transit buses for public transportation, as part of its palliatives on the petrol subsidy removal.

It also announced that electric powered motorcycles and tricycles would be unveiled soon under its e-mobility programme soon.

Governor Dapo Abiodun unveiled the CNG buses on Monday, at the arcade ground of the Governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, for presentation to workers, and students in their various campuses.

The CNG buses will operate in congested corridors such as Mowe-Ibafo- Berger in Lagos, as well as redemption camp to Ojodu Berger in Lagos.

Others will ply Kuto-Wole Soyinka train station at Laderin, and Ita Oshin to Adatan, in Abeokuta, the State Capital.

The Governor said the CNG buses will also be deployed to major towns such as Ijebu Ode, Sagamu and Sango Ota, while a CNG filling station has been opened at Obada Oko, Abeokuta.

He adds that infrastructure would be provided to support the operation of the CNG buses, as well as CNG conversion stations in the three senatorial districts.

Abiodun also said the project’s technical partner, Spiro, had trained several local mechanics who participated in the conversion of the buses to use CNG.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Engineer Gbenga Dairo who stated this at the unveiling of the buses in Abeokuta,lauded the vision of Mr. Governor at promoting a multimodal transport system in the gateway state,adding that coming up with the CNG powered mass transit buses is a landmark achievement recorded by the current administration for the benefit of the people.

In their goodwill messages,the House of Representatives deputy Chief Whip, Honourable Dewunmi Onanuga and her colleague representing Imeko Afon and Yewa North federal constituency, Prince Gboyega Isiaka gave kudos to governor Abiodun for making the state take the lead in the use of the CNG-fueled buses to meet the transportation needs in Nigeria ,adding that the initiative is not only welcome but also sustainable .

In a remark, the Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi also commended the efforts of the current administration at putting in place a safe, accessible and affordable transport system in the state,urging the government to make operations of the CNG-powered buses intra-state.
