Northern Governors Warn Against Reprisal Attacks in Plateau Over Christmas Killings

Northern States Governors forum has cautioned against reprisal attacks over the recent massacre of people in several communities in Plateau state.

The Governor warned that counterattacks against the incident which occurred during the Christmas, would further escalate violence in the state.

The forum chairman, Governor Inuwa Yahaya issued the caution, while speaking with the state house correspondents after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the forum, the focus of people in Plateau state for now should be caring for the survivors of the attacks, not planning reprisal attacks.

More than 190 people were killed by gunmen in the coordinated attacks which started on the last Christmas eve and continued for two days.

The northern governor’s forum said one of the major issues still fueling violence in the, was the unresolved farmer-herder clashes, and indigenes versus settlement question.

The forum commended President Tinubu for his response to the incident so far as well as relief material sent to the affected communities.

But the world over, if any society or country does not welcome visitors, such a nation will not progress. After all, we here are the same family, he reasoned.

Yahaya sympathised with those who lost their loved ones, appealing for restraint from aggrieved communities who may be tempted to revenge.

He advised, There should be no reason why anyone should go and kill or take the life of a fellow human being since it is not a war situation.

Reprisal attacks have not taken us anywhere, so we need to concentrate on understanding ourselves and knowing that we have leaders at all levels to whom we can lodge our complaints.

We should imbibe the habit of loving one another and living in peace for the progress of all of us.
