Nigeria’s Chief Justice asks Judges not to Yield to Mob Pressure while Deciding on Cases

Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Olukayode Ariwo-Ola has vowed that the judges would not be affected by the influence of public sentiments in ruling on cases.

He cautioned judges not to allow themselves to be overwhelmed by noises of the Mob, in their decision on cases before them.

Justice Ariwo-Ola stated this on Monday, at a special session for the 2023/2024 legal year’s induction of 58 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria, in Abuja.

According to the chief justice, the law remains the law, no matter whose interests are involved.

He adds that what judges do as the interpreters of the law, is to separate emotion from logic and assumptions from facts.
