The cold war between the Governor and Amosun, started on the eve of the primaries of Ogun State APC, for the party’s ticket for the 2019 governorship poll.

While Amosun, the then-sitting governor, wanted the ticket for his preferred candidate, Prince Adekunle Akinlade, the party’s national working committee gave it to Prince Dapo Abiodun, who eventually won the 2023 Governorship Poll.

Their path crossed again on the eve of the 2023 governorship race when Amosun, as an APC Senator, vowed to work against the re-election of Governor Abiodun.

Amosun eventually backed Barrister Tunji Otegbeye, who contested on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), against Governor Abiodun of the APC in the 2023 polls.

Recently, the Amosun APC faction which defected to the ADC on the eve of the 2019 polls, returned to the fold.
