NDLEA Detects Drug Concealed In Packs of Semovita, Dry Pepper at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says its operatives have intercepted illicit drugs concealed in packs of semovita and dry pepper

The drug including ephedrine, skunk and nitrous oxide, popularly known as laughing gas, were intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

NLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi on Sunday said NDLEA the drugs were being were shipped to South Africa and Kenya by members of a transnational Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO).

Some of them promptly arrested on Friday one Suleiman Babatunde Oba, who is a suspected member of a cartel distributing cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ephedrine between Nigeria, Brazil, Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique, and Europe.

However, he said Suleiman was arrested while attempting to board a Rwanda air flight to South Africa with two boxes which after a search contained ephedrine sealed in semovita packs.

Also, during a raid on the home of the suspect, Babafemi said items, including a white Toyota Venza car marked LSR 410 HT, a Mercedes Benz SUV marked LSD 998hp, phones and vital documents were recovered by NDLEA operatives.

Also, operatives of Nigeria Immigration Service has intercepted 61 illegal aliens smuggled into Ogun State.

The illegal aliens, including 60 Cameroonians and one Burkinabe, were arrested in Ibafo and Sagamu without valid travelling papers.

Meanwhile, The state comptroller of immigration, Olufunmilayo Olayemisi who paraded the suspects at the agency’s office in Abeokuta, said 52 other Nigerians were arrested along with them.

The comptroller said they claimed to have been brought into the country by a company selling health products

According to her, they were smuggled into the country through various routes.
