Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa has called for an establishment of a special court for the swift prosecution of terrorists captured by troops at the battle fronts in the north.

He lamented that many Boko Haram terrorists had been captured and kept in military detention for about five to six year without being prosecuted.

The military chief bared his mind on the challenges facing the military and other security agencies, while appearing before the House of Representatives, along with other security chiefs to defend the heavy defense expenditure.

According to Musa, military could not prosecute the captured terrorists and other criminal elements, but provides protection for them.

The Defense Chief of Staff, however, worried that after troops and other security forces had risked their lives to capture the terrorists, the judiciary empowered to try them often released them, thereby exposing families of security operatives to danger.

He also defended the huge defense budget, blaming it on the exchange rate of the naira, the dependence on imported arms and equipment’s which resulted in so much fund being spent on few weapons.

He cited the case of $1 billion arms fund approved for Buhari administration out of which over $600 million was spent on Tucano planes, while one precision missile costs $5,000.
