Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has issued a nationwide strike notice over the failure of federal government to implement the upward review of the consolidated medical salary structure.

The association also said the non-implementation of the newly agreed allowances for medical doctors is another demand that must be met.

The Association President, Dr. Uche Ojinma, said both must be implemented with arrears from June 1, 2023, or medical doctors in public hospitals would begin an indefinite strike as from January 31, 2024.

Ojinma speaking at the end of the meeting of the association’s national executive council in Abuja, also demand the implementation of the national health act of 2014.

According to him, the association does not have a direction about when all the allowances would be implemented despite its approval on June 1, 2023.

Recall that the government approved the payment of N25,000 peculiar allowance for medical doctors and dentists in hospitals, medical centres and clinics in the federal civil service.

But Ojinmah said while the association was grateful that the government had taken a step regarding one of its agreements, it awaited the full implementation of the agreements they had.
