Highway Robbery Suspect Implicates Police Inspector in Arms Supply to His Gang

A 53 year old suspected highway robber, Akeem Owonikoko, has implicated a police inspector in the supply of arms used by his gang in their operations in Ogun state.

The suspect who was arrested by a police team, along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway on Sunday, only identified the implicated police officer as Aina.

However, spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect dressed in the uniform of the vigilante group, driving a car, was chased from the expressway, by a police patrol team, led by the Ijebu Ode Area Police Commander, Omosanyi Adeniyi.

Meanwhile, According to her, the suspect sighting the police team diverted into a close where he was arrested, and a cellophane bag he abandoned in the process was searched.

Odutola lists items found in the cellophane bag as including 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges and a locally made short gun.

Later, a search in the residence of the suspect by the police team led to the recovery of a pump action rifle, a double barrel gun, a stunt pistol choker and an unregistered bus marked KNN 58 TD.

Other recovered items are liquid chemicals, a beret of aye confraternity, cannabis two apple watches, cell phones and charms.

Odutola said the state police commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, had ordered a manhunt for other members of the suspect’s gang.
