Here Are the Top 5 Highest-Grossing Nollywood Titles for 2023

Over the course of 12 months, a lineup of Nollywood films engaged audiences nationwide, all released in the latter half of 2023.

Five Nigerian movies crossed the ₦100 million mark at the box office, with one standout grossing over a billion naira.

Leading the list is Funke Akindele‘s A Tribe Called Judah, dominating the Nigerian box office chart.

Released on December 15, 2023, it recorded an impressive ₦113,274,357 million in its opening weekend and culminated the year with a staggering ₦854,284,939 million, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film for 2023.

In second place is Toyin Abraham’s Malaika, a poignant tale of a couple grappling with fertility issues. With a total gross of ₦160,995,869 million, it secured the second-highest spot for the year.

Mercy Aigbe’s Ada Omo Daddy claimed the third position, opening with ₦27,620,446 million and concluding the year with ₦133,663,236 million in total earnings.

Despite competition from Hollywood blockbusters, Orisa emerged as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood title for 2023.

Produced by Ay Makun, it reached ₦100 million within its opening week and closed its 14-week cinema run with a total gross of ₦127.89 million.

Merry Men 3: Nemesis, released on October 13, 2023, secured ₦100 million in just four weeks, concluding with a total gross of ₦118,491,970, as per the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).

The crime comedy is anticipated to hit Netflix later this month.
