Fresh Cracks In APC, As National Chairman, Governors Disagree On New APC National Assembly’s Principal Officers

The unresolved crisis in the All Progressive Congress (APC) is deepening, ahead of the next week’s meeting of the party’s National Execuive Council and caucus, over the Tuesday’s announcement of the APC principal officers of the tenth National Assembly unveiled on Tuesday.

The National Working Committee (NWC) distanced itself from the announcement. But the APC governors forum said Akpabio and Abass had its support on the announced principal officers.

Both the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the principal officers during the separate plenary of their chambers.

Akpabio in the senate has announced Opeyemi Bamidele as the majority leader, Dave Umahi (Deputy Majority Leader), Ali Ndume (Majority Chief Whip) and  Lola Ashiru as Deputy Chief Whip.

Also, Abbas in the House of Representatives, announced Julius Ihombvere as the Majority Leader, Dahiru Abdullahi (Deputy Majority Leader), Bello Kumo (Majority Chief Whip, and Adewunmi Olaniyan as the Deputy Chief Whip.

The APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, addressing newsmen, after a meeting with the APC Governors in Abuja, said it regards the announcement as a rumour.

Adamu who claimed to be reading the announcement on the social media, said his committee was not informed, in line with the tradition of the APC, adding that the due process must be followed to the logical conclusion.

But chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma told newsmen that the party’s governors were in support of the new APC principal officers.

He promised that the forum would bridge the communication gap between the APC National Assembly Leadership, and the party’s National working committee on the issue.
