Five Welders Electrocuted, Four Injured, While Installing Church Billboard in Rivers

Five welders have been electrocuted, while installing a metal frame of a billboard in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital.

Four others who were injured by the electrocution have been rushed to a hospital.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, as the billboard been erected under a high tension cable touched the cable near a flyover at Ikwere-Obiri axis of the east-west road.

Sources said a mega church located in Rumuori axis of the city had contracted MCC whose workshop was close to the federal government college to install the billboard.

Meanwhile, three persons have been caught by the police vandalizing a power transformer at Oni village, in Iwopin in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

The suspects, Awolu Ibrahim, Ibrahim Salihu Ibrahim, and Salihu Ashiru were caught in the act, by the marine police based in Iwopin, after a distress call by people in the village.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, said the police responding to the distress call, encountered the four member gang vandalizing an electric pole at Igbolile street in Iwopin.

She said three of them were arrested, while the fourth managed to escape.

Items recovered from the suspects, include two motorcycles used to convey the vandalized items, as well as, two iron cutters, mobile phones, clothes and charms.
