First Lady Empowers South West Women Farmers with N60 Million to Boost Food Security in the Region

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has empowered 120 women farmers in with N60 million cash grant in the South West Region.

Beneficiaries are women who are in Agrarian Sector, Poultry and Animal Husbandry.

Cheque of N10 million was presented by Mrs. Tinubu, to wives of each of the region’s six governors, at the launch of the renewed hope initiative women agricultural support program in the South West Region held on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

The governors’ wives are to distribute the grant at N500,000 each to selected 20 women in their respective states.

Tinubu in her capacity as the national chairman of the scheme, reaffirmed her dedication to the promotion and empowerment of women.

The First Lady who also flagged off the 2024 planting season, said the program was simultaneously launched on Tuesday in other five geo-political zones.

She also announced a cash grant of N100,000 each for 100 persons with disabilities to assist them expand their various existing businesses.

Governor Dapo Abiodun lauded the first lady for the initiative, which according to him was quite exemplary and a testimony to her visionary leadership.

Ogun state’s First Lady, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun said the initiative would impact positively on the women farmers and boost food security in the region.

In attendance at the event were traditional rulers, first ladies of Imo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun and Lagos state.

The Ogun State governor revealed that his administration has equally prioritised the empowerment of women as over 50,000 of them have benefited from over N1.5bn Okowo Dapo, a financial assistance scheme initiated by his government to support the women among others.

Speaking earlier, the wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun thanked the President’s wife for working hard to make life much better for the women and the less privileged in the country through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Mrs Abiodun maintained that such kind gestures such as the Women Agricultural Support Programme would no doubt impact the prosperity of the women farmers but also helped in boosting food production in the country.

She equally lauded the first lady for championing the cause of people living with disabilities like never before, calling on other members of the public to give support to this set of people to make life much better.
