Bricklayer Jailed For Life for Raping 13 Year Old Girl in Lagos

Lagos State Sexual Offenders and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a bricklayer to a life jail for raping a 13 year old girl.

The convict committed the act in his room at Agbawaye Street in Agbado-oke axis of Lagos State. The prosecutor told the court he raped the girl in his room on June 2, 2021.

Justice Abiola Soladoye said the prosecutor proved his case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.

After two years of trial at the Lagos court, the LSDVA, in a statement posted on its verified X handle, formerly known as Twitter, @Lagosdsva, on Wednesday, said Justice Abiola Soladoye of the special court sentenced Awaye to life imprisonment for the crime.

The agency added that the court further pronounced that Awaye’s name should be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register in accordance with the state law.

The statement quoting the justice’s verdict partly read, “His offences, according to the prosecution, contravened the provisions of Sections 127 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. In her judgment, Justice Soladoye said the prosecution proved the ingredients of the two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault against the defendant.

The judge held that the survivor was lucid and unambiguous while giving her evidence before the court, noting that her testimony corroborated with other prosecution witnesses. The evidence of the defendant is laced with lies, as he tried to detach himself from the offence by saying the mother of the survivor tried to have a sexual relationship with him.
