Arewa Leaders Warn Peter Obi, Says His Utterances Threaten May 29 Handover

A Coalition of Arewa Leaders have cautioned the presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi and Labour Party leaders against acts capable of instigating a repeat of the bloody 1966 coup.

The leaders in a communique at the end of their meeting in Kaduna State, said they had noted that events following the 2023 polls were bearing semblance with events preceding the 1966 coup.

The Arewa leaders in the communique signed by its Chairman, Suleiman Jere asked Peter Obi and Labour Party leaders to stop post 2023 polls’ inciting political utterances.

They said his utterances was a follow up to his electioneering campaign which they alleged was based on a divisive ethno-religious platform.

The nothern leaders urged Obi and his running mate, Datti Ahmed, to face their ongoing litigations against the outcome of the 2023 presidential poll and not cause chaos with disobedience and threats.

The Arewa leaders ask security agencies to be alive to their responsiblities by arresting those advocating interim national government and a military coup.
