APC and Ogun Government Wade into Assembly’s Impeachment of Speaker Olakunle Oluomo

Ogun state All Progressive Congress (APC) and the state government have waded into the leadership crisis in the Ogun state House of Assembly, which degenerated to the last Tuesday’s impeachment of the speaker, Olakunle Oluomo.

Oluomo was impeached by 18 out of the 26 members of the house, who immediately elected Oludaisi Elemide as the new speaker.

The state governor’s special adviser on media, Kayode Akinmade, in a statement said members of the assembly have the prerogative to choose their leader, in line with the constitution and the law guiding the conduct of the assembly.

He, however, said the state government considers all members of the house as partner in the Abiodun administration’s ‘build our future’ agenda.

Akinmade explained that the focus of the intervention is that whatever disagreement that members among themselves have, is resolved peacefully and amicably.

According to him, the state government would work with the state APC to see that all contending issues resolved in a democratic, fair and just manner.

Also, Akinmade said the state government was aware of internal wrangling within the assembly, which degenerated, despite several interventions to resolve them.

Akinmade also noted that the assembly members have openly said their grouse was not with the state government and had pledged loyalty to Governor Abiodun.
