Ememobong expressed dissatisfaction with the choice of Principal Officers of Local Government Areas residing outside their jurisdictions, contrary to the government’s directive. Consequently, the Exco mandated the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to strictly enforce the existing law, requiring these officers to reside within their designated areas.
Moreover, he explained that the council addressed the draft copy of the 2024 fiscal year budgets, presented by the Commissioner for Finance. The figures for recurrent and capital estimates were adopted as presented during the deliberations.
In addition to this, the Exco approved emergency intervention at Afia Nsit Village in Eket Local Government Area to address erosion and reconstruct the damaged section of the road.
Furthermore, a directive was issued to the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation to reactivate and make functional water works in the Uyo metropolis and selected rural areas. This initiative marks the initial phase of the state’s efforts to ensure water provision across different regions.
Ememobong highlighted the Exco’s disapproval of the unauthorized reopening of the Chinese company Golden Tripod Company, known for engaging in operations hazardous to human health and detrimental to the environment. The resolution reached was the permanent closure of the facility, with an alternative land allocated to them at the industrial estate in Itam.
The meeting, chaired by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, had the deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enoobong Uwah, and commissioners in attendance.
