Shittu claimed that Buhari Seldom supervised his Appointed Cabinet Members

Former Communications Minister, Adebayo Shittu has said that former President Buhari rarely monitor or supervised his cabinet members, after appointing them.

Shittu, who served in the Buhari administration between 2015 and 2019, said Buhari was a reserved person, and do not ask ministers how they go about their ministries, once he appointed them.

The former minister, was reacting on a television programme, to President Tinubu’s riot act to his cabinet members at the ongoing retreat to perform or be fired.

According to Shittu, Buhari may not ask of a minister in four years if he or she does not go to him in the Villa.

Shittu recalled that during Buhari administration, ministers came to the meeting of federal executive council weekly with their memo.

According to the former minister, after the debate of the memo, there was hardly any session for policy formulation or supervision.

Shittu, however, said Tinubu’s style of governance appeared different to that of Buhari, as he is putting pressure on his cabinet members to deliver.

He said Tinubu’s riot act shows a more commitment, but urges him to ensure transparency and quantitative supervision of the ministries, departments and agencies.

Every Wednesday, people bring their memos and they are debated and all of that but in terms of policy formulation and supervision, we rarely did have such things and I am happy that President Tinubu is trying to do things differently.

In his statement today, that is a sign that he (Tinubu) wants to do things differently. What I think he needs to add to it is to create transparent, quantifiable milestones for each ministry.
