Akpabio Stirs Fresh Controversy over Money Lodged In Senators’ Bank

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has told senators that some money had been lodged into their respective banks account to enjoy their holiday.

Akpabio notified the senators on Thursday, before a motion for the adjournment of the Senate plenary for their annual vacation.

The senators, for the past one week, had rescheduled their annual vacation to screen the 48 ministerial nominees forwarded to them by President Tinubu for consideration and confirmation.

He said the money, which according to him, was a token, was lodged into their banks account by the clerk of the National Assembly.

The senate president, when notified that the plenary was being televised live nationwide, quickly said he was withdrawing the statement.

“I withdraw that statement,” he said.

“In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return,” Mr Akpabio rephrased the comment, apparently to correct what was considered an embarrassment.

Instead, Akpabio said what he meant was that, he had sent prayers to the mail boxes of the senators, for safe journey from Abuja to their various constituencies and back to the  National Assembly.

This is not the first time Mr Akpabio would be stirring controversy on the floor of the senate.

There was outrage, last month, when the senate president was filmed on live TV making light of the “Let The Poor Breathe,” phrase which is often used by Nigerians to criticise the current hardship in the country.
