Abiodun Says Spread of Cultism in Southwest, especially in Ogun, Is Worrisome

Governor Dapo Abiodun has described the rising cases of cultist killings in the South West region, especially in Ogun State, as worrisome.

He also says that Ogun State, with the opportunity of its proximity to Lagos, is facing security challenges.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known in Abeokuta during the meeting of the South West Conference of Directors of Security from Ekiti, Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, and Osun States.

He urged the directors to explore the root causes of cultism, now prevalent in the South West region, in order to nip it in the bud.

The governor expressed concern over the involvement of primary school children, vulcanizers, welders, artisans, and undergraduates in cultism.

Abiodun asked the directors to get to the root of cultism in Ogun and the region to reduce unnecessary cult killings.

In the case of Ogun, the governor said that due to its proximity to Lagos, Nigeria’s financial capital, anything that happened there would be felt in the state within minutes.

He also stated that Ogun State, in partnership with Lagos, plans to install streetlights and closed-circuit television cameras on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights is to enable security agencies to swiftly react to emergencies and distress calls in the corridor.

The chairman of the South West Directors of Security, Bolade Olori, said topical issues would be discussed during the meeting, and solutions provided.

Ogun State Director of State Services, Mrs. Folashade Adekaiyaoja, appreciated the Ogun State government for its support and assured of renewed efforts to combat crimes in the state.
