Abiodun Declares a Week of Mourning in Honor of the Finance Director Who Was Shot Dead

Governor Dapo Abiodun has declared a week of mourning in honor of the Finance Director of the Ogun state governor’s office, Taiwo Oyekanmi, shot dead by gunmen while on duty on Wednesday.

The national flag is to be flown at half-mast in the morning in public offices during the period.

Abiodun also said the state government would take responsibility for the welfare of his family, especially his wife and children.

The Governor announced these, shortly after presenting the state’s appropriation bill for 2024 at the state House of Assembly, and a condolence visit to the family of the slain finance director in Abeokuta on Thursday.

The finance director was shot dead in a bullion van on top of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) flyover bridge, at Kuto, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, while returning to the governor’s office, from a bank where he had gone to withdraw money for the state government.

The Governor described the late accountant as a god-fearing, humble, contented, loyal, and hardworking civil servant, vowing that security agencies would track down the killers.

He said that the Governor’s Office and the entire state workforce have been devastated by the killing, assuring that everything possible would be done to bring the perpetrators to justice.

How could we imagine yesterday morning that we would be here this morning condoling with this family?

“We are all heavily burdened, the pain not describable. He left us asking questions since yesterday afternoon.

Responding on behalf of the family of the deceased, his younger brother, Tayo Oyekanmi, thanked the governor for the visit even as he said destiny had been shattered, dreams cut short, not only in the family but the entire Ifonyintedo community in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

He urged the governor to unravel the people behind the killing in no distant time to assuage the pains of the family.
