2024 Budget: FG to Spend Billions on the Development of Airstrips

2024 Budget: FG to Spend Billions on the Development of Airstrips

Federal Government is to spend billions of naira on the development of new airstrips and rehabilitation of existing ones, according to the proposed 2024 budget of the ministry of aviation and aerospace development.

The ministry plans to spend N3.2bn for the development of various airstrips in Funtua, Kaduna; Umuahia, Abia and others.

The ministry would also rehabilitate the existing Osubi airstrip in delta state with nN2bn while N375m was allocated for rehabilitation of other airstrips.

Provisions were also made in the budget for the rehabilitation of other airstrips in Hadejia, Jigawa; Bida, Irrua-Edo; Kontagora, and Uli-Okija.

Other details of the allocation revealed that the aviation ministry and its agencies would be spending over N1.3bn on refreshments and meals, welfare packages, and sporting activities, among other listed items.

As an ongoing project, the ministry plans to spend N2bn on the development of Aerospace University in Abuja, and N1bn on the expansion of wing D and E fingers of Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos.

The sum of N60m has also been set aside for the ongoing Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement, and Multilateral Air Service Agreement, for Namibia, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Senegal Israel, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa, Eritrea, Namibia, Venezuela, among others.
