Nigeria kickstarted their campaign at the 13th African game with a 2-1 loss to Uganda on Thursday night.

Arafat Usama gave Uganda the lead in the 33rd minute from a well-worked counterattack which caught the Nigerian defence unawares and in bad shape.

But Isiyaka would restore parity for Nigeria in the 37th minute with a fine header from a corner kick.

Uganda got the winning goal in the 80th minute with a venomous shot from Ivan Irinimbabazi.

The flying eagles will next be in action on Monday when they face South Sudan.

The second half saw the Hippos continue from where they stopped as they searched for the winner which proved elusive until late on.

Just as the game looked to be petering out into a draw, Uganda then struck with a moment of magic – an unstoppable long-range drive flying past the Eagles goalkeeper who should have done better.
