Ogun Working with Lagos to Revisit the Ogun/Lagos Joint Development Commission

Ogun State Government says it is working with its Lagos counterparts, to revisit the Lagos-Ogun joint development commission set up with Lagos state.

Several agreements signed between Ogun and Lagos state governments under the scheme, include rail and land transport linking the two states.

The State Transport Commissioner, Gbenga Dairo, announced this while briefing newsmen, on the newly introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus scheme, in Abeokuta.

According to him, Ogun is working with Lagos for the extension of the Lagos Red Line mass transit rail to Ijoko, Ifo, Kajola, and Papalanto in the state.

Dairo explained that Ogun is developing a holistic transport system, to address the rural-urban migration with the UK foreign and commonwealth development office and the Olabisi Onabanjo University.

He explained that the reports addressed all forms of infrastructure, such as management, funding, regulation, parking, route system, and agencies which are critical to the success of the transport plan.

He said the pilot CNG bus scheme now operational on the Adatan-Ita Oshin in Abeokuta and Mowe-Ibafo-Berger, is part of the reports which is being implemented.

Dairo said the bus scheme would be extended to other parts of the state when more of the CNG buses are rolled out.

Similarly, rail transport development is key to us because of its many advantages.

We have revisited the Lagos/Ogun Joint Development Commission where certain agreements were entered into concerning rail and land transport that will link both states.

We are working on that with Lagos to extend the Red Line railway into Ijoko, Ifo, Kajola, and Papalanto. I can confirm to you that the Governor is very interested in this.

Also, there are investors who want to connect our Agro Cargo Airport to Lagos State by rail. Talks are equally ongoing on this.

We are working on Bus plans for all cities with consideration for the characteristics, size, and purchasing power of the people in our diverse communities.

We are fine-tuning our Intercity transportation schemes too. High-capacity buses and alternative fuels are further being discussed.
