Newborn Baby Stolen Three Hours after Delivery at Nasarawa Hospital

A newborn baby has been stolen, three hours after delivery at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.

The baby was delivered through the caesarian section at 3 A.M. on Tuesday.

The baby was stolen from the neo-natal ward of the hospital at 6 A.M.

The mother of the baby, Wosilat Suleiman told newsmen at the hospital that the baby must be recovered.

The hospital’s Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Mohammed Saliu said the baby after delivery at 3 A.M. on Tuesday, was handed over to a relative of the patient before they were transferred to the neo-natal ward.

The relative, according to him, entrusted the baby to a stranger to enable her to pick some things from home.

Dr. Suleiman said the relative had been arrested by the police, while some of the staff on duty at the hospital, during the period had been quizzed by the police.

Reacting to the incident, the Acting Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the hospital, Dr. Mohammed Salihu, said it was the first time that such a thing happened in the healthcare facility.

He further said that the management was collaborating with the police to unravel the suspect behind the dastardly act.

Already, the relations of the mother of the baby have been arrested and some of our staff on duty were invited by the police for questioning.

The management will review the CCTV footage to arrest the culprit, he added.
