NASS To Meet Resident Doctors On Friday Over Strike

The president of the Nigerian association of Resident Doctors , Dr Emeka Orji, said the National Assembly ( NASS ) has invited the association for a meeting today.

Resident’s doctors across 79 tertiary health facilities commenced a five-day warning strike last Wednesday to press home their demands.

The doctors are demanding an immediate increment in the consolidated medical salary structure to the tune of 200 per cent of the current gross salaries of doctors.

The doctors also want immediate massive recruitment of clinical staff in the hospitals.

Also, immediate withdrawal of the bill seeking to compel medical and dental graduates to render five-year compulsory services in Nigeria before being granted full licenses to practice among others.

Dr Orji condemned the idea of replacing the striking doctors with ad hoc staff and warned that threats from the government will escalate the crisis in the health sector.
