Lagos to Acquire Additional Trains for Blue Line and Red Line Rail Projects

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the acquisition of additional trains for the Blue Line and Red Line rail projects in Lagos state.

The Governor during a recent meeting with the president and management of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in Beijing, China, reiterated the commitment of his administration to completing the second phase of the blue line rail project and initiating the commercial operations of the red line rail project.

He said that they have already completed phase one of the Blue Line and have seen a significant rise in passenger traffic.

The Governor added that the red line, being longer with more infrastructure, is expected to accommodate a larger number of passengers than the blue line.

In an update on his X account, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that the procured trains had undergone thorough checks, with production specifications finalized and payments made.

Delivery dates from Dalian, China, to Lagos, Nigeria, have been confirmed, signaling progress in the procurement process.

Joint maintenance agreements, as well as knowledge and skills transfer, to be finalized with the team, boasting over 100 years of manufacturing experience, making them one of the foremost and well-known train manufacturers in the world, he added.

Expressing his excitement about the development, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated Lagos’ anticipation of excellence, connectivity, and modern technology in infrastructural development.

He extended his gratitude to the team for their commitment to the partnership, expressing eagerness to collaborate with them in future endeavors.
