Federal Government Assures Flood Prone Isheri Community of Permanent Solution

Federal government has assured residents of Isheri community off the Lagos-Ibadan expressway which are ravaged by flooding, of quick and permanent solution to the perennial flooding in the axis

It promised to first conduct a comprehensive study of the flooded community in order to find a lasting solution to the flooding problems.

Environment minister of state, Dr. Ishaq Salako, gave the assurance while addressing residents of the community, in company of the water resources and sanitation minister, Professor Joseph Utsev.

They were led to the flooded community by Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Onisheri of Isheri, Oba Sulaiman Bamgbose.

Salako said because the flooding problems is multi-faceted, the proposed comprehensive study of the flooding would provide a lasting solution.

Also, the minister said there is the need for the expansion of drainage, the study of Ogun River which flooded the community, as well as, raising the level of roads in the community.

Governor Abiodun commending President Bola Tinubu for the fresh initiative said some buildings erected on the water channel would be demolished for the proper channelization of Ogun River into the Lagos lagoon.

He adds that the humanitarian and poverty alleviation minister, Dr. Betta Edu would visit the state in a few days to come.

Also, Abiodun, during a visit to the affected communities on Monday, declared a state of emergency in the flooded area as he assured residents of quick intervention.

“We will prioritise the works here because I am touched with what I have seen. I will ensure that we immediately begin to see signs of relief as we step this up.

The Minister of State for Environment is already aware. The Vice President is already aware and also the President. It will be dealt with as an emergency and we are taking it as such.

“As an emergency, I would like to take it up myself. Please, continue to bear with us as we are going to conduct a comprehensive assessment of what we need to do to make this place conducive for living,” Abiodun said.
