Ethiopia Worried Over Fighting In Sudan

Ethiopia has expressed concern over  fighting involving a rebel group in South Kordofan State.

According to the UN, more than 50,000 people have crossed borders into Ethiopia since the conflict began in April between the Sudan’s army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Ethiopia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Meles Alem, also mentioned the clashes in West Darfur,

where the conflict has inflamed already fraught ethnic tensions between Arab and African communities similar to the violence that erupted two decades ago.

With tensions escalating around the state’s capital Kadugli, many have fled the state.

Violence has also been reported in Blue Nile state bordering Ethiopia.

Arga held a discussion on Tuesday with the Sudanese ambassador in Ethiopia, Jamal El-Sheikh, regarding the current situation in the African country.

He reaffirmed the support of the Ethiopian government for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the interest of the people of Sudan.

He also stressed the need to resolve the conflict through dialogue and expressed his confidence that Ethiopians and the staff of Ethiopia’s diplomatic mission in Sudan would receive proper protection.
