A federal high court in Lagos has stopped President Buhari and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)<\/a> from revoking the operating licences of 53 broadcast stations in the country.<\/p>\n

Justice Akintayo Aluko ordered Buhari and the NBC not to shut down the stations for allegedly failing to renew their licences.<\/p>\n

The judge granted an order of interim injunction during the hearing of a motion expatriate filed by the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the Socio Economic and Accountability Project (SERAP).<\/p>\n

Both SERAP and Guild of Editors in their application contend that the NBC lacks the constitutional rights to shut down the broadcast stations.<\/p>\n

Justice Aluko had adjourned the hearing of the motion for the interlocutory injunction till September 8<\/p>\n

NBC had earlier threatened the shutdown of the stations over alleged 2.6 billion naira debts arising from the non-renewal of their operating licences.<\/p>\n
