Two dead in an Auto crash on the Ijebu Ode-Sagamu Expressway

Two persons have died in an auto crash, involving a truck and a car on the Ijebu Ode-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State

The two who died in the crash on Sunday, were occupants of the truck which was conveying a 40 feet container.

The accident occurred at Odo Fisco before Mobalufon junction Flyover Bridge in Ijebu Ode.

Spokesman of the Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi, blamed the accident the crash on the truck whose driver was over-speeding.

According to him, the truck driver lost control, while the vehicle was descending the sloppy segment of the expressway, and blocked the entire inward of the road to Ijebu Ode from Ijagun.

Those who died had been taken to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital and deposited in its morgue.

The area commander warned motorists against speeding and ensure that their vehicles were always in good condition before putting them on the highways.

He further urged owners of articulated trucks and containers to always caution their drivers against speeding and wrongful overtaking to prevent mishaps on the road. He said the container had been towed off the road to ease the flow of traffic in the area.

The TRACE Area Commander, who said that no life was lost in any of the three incidents, however, implored drivers of articulated vehicles to exercise caution on the roads to avoid unnecessary damage of goods or loss of lives.

Ajibade said that the fall of articulated vehicles often created serious traffic gridlocks and endangered the lives of other road users on the highway

He attributed the causes of such incidents to reckless driving on part of the drivers.

“We are appealing to articulated truck drivers to always exercise patience and desist from dangerously driving to keep our highways safe for the public
