Tribunal Rejects Governorship Candidate Of Ogun State NNPP’s Request To Change Party’s Counsel

Ogun state polls petitions tribunal has dismissed the request of the governorship candidate of the new Nigeria peoples party (NNPP), Olufemi Ajadi, to substitute the counsel of the party handling its petition against the conduct of march 18 polls.

The governorship candidate last week had written the tribunal, seeking to replace the party’s counsel, Peter Ogah, with Nzuya.

The state party chairman, Olaposi Oginni, however, opposed the request, insisting on the retention of Peter Ogah as the counsel of the party before the tribunal.

The three member tribunal on Thursday rejected the application of the governorship candidate to substitute the party’s counsel.

The tribunal unanimously recognized peter ogah as the party’s counsel, adding that he had satisfied all the legal requirements in filing petition of the party.

Earlier, Peter Ogah had on behalf of the party, filed a petition seeking the cancellation of the march 18 governorship and state house of assembly poll, won by governor Dapo Abiodun.

In the exparte motion, the counsel alleged that the logo and name of the party were omitted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the ballots used for the conduct of the poll.

The party also seek an order of the tribunal to compel inec to allow its counsel to inspect all the material used for the conduct of the poll.

The tribunal okayed the prayers, ordering inec to allow the party to inspect, photocopy, record and scan all sensitive materials used for the poll.
