Tension In Federal Varsities, ASUU Sets To Meet Over Half Month Pay

There is tension in the Federal Universities overnight, following the 17 day salaries alert received by ASUU lecturers for the month of October on Thursday night.

The unpaid salaries of the eight month period they were on strike, was not included in the salary alert.

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, reacting to the development on Thursday night, said an urgent meeting of the union would be convened immediately.

Osodeke warns that Federal Government with the decision is again pushing ASUU to the wall.

The lecturers who went on strike last February 14, had returned to the classrooms on October 14, after an agreement brokered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Apart from the lecturers, members of the Non-Academic Staff of Federal Universities had also protested the withholding of their four month pay when they were on strike, by the Federal Government.
