Ten Killed, Others Injured in Imo Illegal Refinery Explosion

Ten persons have lost their lives in an illegal oil refinery explosion in Abia state.

Several others were injured in the explosion on Sunday at Uzuakwu in the Ukwa local government area.

Three died on the spot, while seven others died after they were rushed to a hospital.

Sources says that illegal refining of petrol had been suspended for a while after Shell stopped pumping crude through pipeline in the axis, following attack by oil thieves.

Shell was said to have resumed pumping crude through the pipeline two weeks ago which enable illegal refineries to return to site.

Less that two weeks ago, over 100 people were burnt to death in another illegal refinery explosion at Ohaji Egbema in Imo state.
