More than 70 million may have been disconnected by telecommunication firms from their network overnight for not linked to the National Identity Number (NIN).
The disconnection followed federal government’s directive to bar sim cards not connected to NIN as from yesterday.

As at last February, there were 303.6 million connected telephone lines, out of which 197.68 million were active, according to the Nigerian communication commission.
Out of the 197.68 million active lines, only 125 million were linked to NIN.
