Suspects Arrested over Robbers’ Raid of Federal Poly, Ilaro’s Hostels

Security operatives have been deployed to Ilaro  and some suspects arrested following raids by gunmen on out of campus hostels of the federal polytechnic, Ilaro.

Also, stakeholders’ meeting took place in the town on Monday with the state’s top security officers in attendance.

During the raids on the hostels at the weekend, students said the gunmen broke into their rooms, carted away their valuables as well as foodstuffs.

The gunmen also raped some of the female students during the attacks, forcing several students to vacate their hostels for safer places in the town.

Spokesman of Ogun state 0yeyemi, says some of the suspected robbers have been arrested and the suspects arrested are now in police custody.

Oyeyemi speaking to a Rockcity FM correspondent, Yemi Eniola, says policemen and other security operatives are on the trail of other suspected robbers, who raided the students hostels.

Oyeyemi says the students community has not been carrying the police along on such issues, adding that police have been careful because of the large number of students in the polytechnic.

Also, the special assistant to the state governor on students’ affairs, Azeez Adeyemi, told Yemi Eniola that a major stakeholders’ meeting took place in Ilaro on Monday to device ways of preventing the reoccurrence of the attack.

According to him, in attendance were state government’s officials, the polytechnic management, students’ union leaders as well as top officers of the state Amotekun corps, so-safe corps, the military, the police and other security agencies.

Adeyemi explained that the state government is on top of the security situation and working to bring those involved in the incident to book.
