The senior non-academic staff of federal universities have rejected the proposed salary disparity in the report of the Nimi Briggs committee which renegotiated federal government’s agreements with university based unions.
The Senior Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) says it will not accept the recommended disparity in salaries with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The union president, Mohammed Ibrahim accused the Nimi Briggs committee of awarding between 108 and 180 percent salary increase for academic staff, while recommending 10 percent for non-teaching staff.
According to him, the salary structure of academic and non-academic staff of universities staff worldwide are the same except for allowances.
Ibrahim recalled that the committee met SSANU members only twice during which it said it had no approval to review the salaries while it met with ASUU ten times.
